Take and hold planets, I also use scav quite a bit.
I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are. Milton Berle

I'd vote for "All of the above". It all depends on the map. Taking planets and scavenging are always good options. Some maps don't really have any good trading opportunities, or they are too risky, but some maps have some very lucrative trading opportunities.

Like Tapsa, I agree that it's all of the above depending on which map.

My personal preference overall though is to use a good mix of scavenge/hold planets. In certain maps, I scavenge way more - i.e. I pretty much have at least one scavenger in a fleet since the return on investment is too good to past up.

I think I am best with scavs. I play a lot of the gauntlet mode and you can always count on them.
